Tonight the Part of Harry Callahan Will Be Played By . . .

Like a rebellious teenager when her parents leave her in charge of the house, I stay up extra late and eat more sugar than usual when my husband is out of town. This may sound boring, but my parents only left town once when I was a teen and my grandparents lived across the driveway (seriously, they were our neighbors), so this is all I’ve got, folks. And wild parties aren’t any fun without the Mister’s brilliant hand at the bar or Sasa on the trampoline, so here I am, listening to the clock tick toward midnight.

Please play along . . .

If your dog or cat (or turtle, chinchilla, rabbit, bird, et al) were a Hollywood actress/actor or movie character, who would he or she be? I ask this because tonight Mick had a little growling fit and all I could think of was Clint Eastwood and a dozen of his movie roles. Mick seemed to say, “Go ahead, make my day” any time another pooch crossed his path.*

So, dear readers, I beg you: make my night 🙂

Much Love,

the Insomniac

A flock of sheep that leisurely pass by
One after one; the sound of rain, and bees
Murmuring; the fall of rivers, winds and seas,
Smooth fields, white sheets of water, and pure sky –
I’ve thought of all by turns, and still I lie
~William Wordsworth, “To Sleep”

*No offense to Gary Swanson, of “Vice Squad,” who is first credited with the line, “Go ahead scumbag, make my day,” but Clint now owns the line in Hollywood legend.

  1. Iknow the feeling. I don’t eat sugar…I drink too much wine. We have two cats , Max and Lucy, Max is definitely that cat who plays cool sax in the alley late at night when all the humans are fast asleep and Lucy, she’s more…..Meryl Streep.

Yum! to the wine. I would probably have an extra glass (and that could induce sleep, so perhaps you’re onto something) or two, but I like to blame my 8-year-old for the sugar habit 🙂 indulging her in an extra smackeral of honey, so to speak. She wouldn’t go for the vino …. Lol
Speaking of Lily and “cat’s away” behaviors, she took to jumping on the bed without noticing my Shakti mat (a bed of nails, which I use to ease muscle tension) laid out on my side. It was bad news — of course she jumped on it! The “nails” are short plastic spikes, but still quite sharp and she cut up her leg a bit. No more monkeys jumping on the bed 😦

  2. Hi Mel

    Love the Wordsworth.

Good question! Meg Ryan immediately comes to mind with Bella the Beagalier – pretty, silly, and so needy for love and attention. Gregory Peck comes to mind for Fergus the Fox Terrier – earnest, sensible, serious.

I now picture Fergus with pipe and waistcoat …. and lovely thoughtful brows that betray his genuine concern for all of mankind.
